It looks nice but it's a problem for internationalization. Anyway maybe it's enough grafic.

Ola Mr Pine The whole idea beyond an icon is that it should be immediately clear what it means. That's the idea beyond traffic signs as well. They are and have to be extremely consistent to be immediately understandable. They don't have complex patterns and/or gradients etc. Why is it not possible to design icons the same intentions in mind as traffic signs?

@Anonymous: This is an application icon, not an action icon. KDE tries to keep action icons simple and straight-forward. Application icons serve the dual function of conveying purpose and establishing a visual brand, hence a more artistic/metaphoric approach is taken there.
Oops, forgot to add: Loving it! The new version is definitely the best so far.

@ Anonymous: I don't want icons like traffic signs on my desktop. That would be really boring. And there's nothing wrong about beautiful icons if they are still meaningful. I think Oxygen is beautiful and meaningful. But you're free to use whatever icon set you want.
Looks pretty cool! It might be harder to distinguish at smaller sizes (or further from the screen) than the other version, though. The text won't be readable at smaller sizes.

A sand watch would be cool in the vault would be good.
Looks well but I think a round number combination key vault would be a better vault symbol.

Very nice. Maybe you should consider lager numbers and letters to make them more readable and to emphasize their importance. Also red on black might not be the best choice for contrast.

I agree that this is the best one so far...
...but I too guess a hourglass one would look even better - besides having no problems with date formats. :-D
I fear you won't notice any of that date goodness when the icon is down to a size where people normally view it. It's already hard to recognize on the smaller version that you posted.
Personally, I think using the "clock lock" was a pretty nice idea, but oh well.
The vault with the date is a lot better than the first one.
I'm against a sand clock. I think it will look out of place.
While the numeric date is displayed different across the globe, the way the author layout it (with the titles above) is more than self explanatory IMHO.
