Nice!

Where can I see the full resolution ones?
Which is the KDE svn url?

P.D. They should consider GIT...

Nuno, these are some very nice wallpapers! :)

KDS: I would imagine you can see the full resolution ones once they are available from SVN (http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/KDE/kdebase/workspace/wallpapers/).

P.S. We are actually moving towards using git, tracked on the kde-scm-interest mailing list.

They should consider Git indeed.

Nice wallpapers.

There is a little typo in the subject line: You made them winers instead of winners

Very nice.

One request though: Could you please make all wallpapers available, not only the selected ones? Reasoning is that I'm not only curious but also pretty sure that there are loads of good stuff.

If you want to save the bandwith simply upload them to something like rapidshare.com.

Thanks a lot in advance :)

@Anonymous I wont do that, one of the reasons we get such high quality wallpapers is that because the "contest" will not throw all of the entries to LGPL, only the winners will be LGPL, the ones that did not make it go back to the original creator so HE can decided by himself what to do with it, maybe they will prefer a CC license or even to sell their work, but hopefully make it available in kde-look or somewhere like that, but its their call not mine.

This strategy worked very well and We received amazing artwork, that has benefit us all.

I don't think they're that great at all.

The pin one is too dizzy.

Check out this awesome wallpaper that's under creative commons and has multiple sizes in the package: http://tantawi.deviantart.com/art/Morning-93029806
The number of favs, comments and downloads justify it. So please pick it!

It even has a daily deviation award!

The pin one is really awful. A great photo, but it makes a horrible wallpaper.

I have to stand up and say that because that people around here are "it's all good".

That pin wallpaper has too many details and points of focus, it will suck hard when you have some icons or plasmoids on your desktop. Please don't include it!
I'm aware I'm spamming you again... but feel free to test that wallpaper out with a theme like Glassified and some plasmoids all around your desktop...I'm very sure it will be annoying.

@Dread Knight frist that sudgestion of yours as a non aceptable licence, second I did not recived it on the litle contest soo...

alst thing wen eveey one says it rocks and you say it dosent maybe you are wrong .... specialy wen it come to popular artwork... I thought I vector suncet roocked wen most people voted him out it meens I'm wrong...

@pinheiro I could try to get in touch with that guy and ask for relicensing.
What's the problem atm, needs commercial right and to be able to make derivates?

If that wallpaper would make it in KDE among the default wallpapers, it will be awesome for KDE.
Pinheiro said…
@Dread Knight it needs to be lgpl v3.
And in 6 months he can join if he wants to. Dough I prefer unrealesed work.

All of them are nice, especially the first one :)

All well done. Gotta put it up for Altra though - whew-hoo!

Why it must have a GPL compatible license? Why CC will not be accepted?
There is internet full of nice CC licensed photos what can be even used in commercial distributions.

I dont get it why CC is not just accepted and why the (L)GPL just is.
What is the problem with CC?
Pinheiro said…
@Anonymous couse people that do actulay care about that much more than I do, say so...GPL would be just as fine, CC poses some issues to distributions...
Anonymous said…
what kind problems the CC could bring? I can not get any others than if work is licensed as CC nc (No Commercial) so they can not use it on commericial distribution (SLED, RED HAT, Xandros and few others).

What else problems does CC bring?

Like CC by nd?

1) You can share work (needed)
2) you need to mention the maker name (possible on the image metadata or the kde wallpaper selector where there is maker name)
3) You can even edit the wallpaper if you just ask licensor about that. Most likely they allow adding distribution brand to that.

I can not find any problems unless CC is used with nc option. Am I missing something here?
I have few friends who use CC a lot and they do not seem to have problems with them. So why KDE would have?

I don't like the third one, the sand makes it look ugly and dirty.
Pinheiro said…
@Diego Viola did the guy apply to the contest? no!
Is it original never seen before artwork? no!
Is the license acceptable? no!

If he wants to send a wallpaper for KDE 4.4 with a viable license then its great.
Pinheiro said…
@Anonymous "so why KDE would have".
You probably don't know but oxygen was dual license in the beginning cc and lgpl but ....
an example http://www.debian.org/legal/licenses/

people that know allot more than we do about this issues thought it was not a good idea...
Dread Knight said…
@Pinheiro as far as I know, the guy might not even know what the heck linux is. So let's not even mention about him knowing what's KDE and if he knew about this contest at all.
And what about original? How is that pin wallpaper original? And not sure what does originality have to do with good wallpapers anyway. Even if some people say they like it, that's one of the worst wallpapers KDE will have for sure. You probably removed way better wallpapers to make room for that lesser quality one.

I might try to get in touch with that guy soon and talk with him about this.

But I personally think CC is more suitable for artwork compared to GPL licenses, that's why for the open source game projects I'm making I use CC for artwork and GPL for code (www.FreezingMoon.org).
Pinheiro said…
@Dread Knight what you or I might or might not think about licenses is completely irrelevant given that fact that many distributions find CC unacceptable.
Original artwork mean artwork that has not been made popular elsewhere... I could ask how come that wallpaper and not another??? there area plenty of fantastic wallpapers in that site and many other sites. So how come that one??

Th criteria was simple if some one wanted his wallpaper in the KDE 4.2 he could have sent it to me.

About the Pine-tree wallpaper I know of several people that love it...Actuality i know of one that finds it the first usable wallpaper we haver posted...

The selection was made based on asking several people witch one they liked best, and making a wide selection of possible to please every one wallpapers
