KDE 4.2 Rocks! I told you so.
Well the last few weeks I have been able to build trunk in my machines, and I have to say that KDE is looking great.
I'm not afraid to show my kde 4.2 next to a Leopard or a Vista. Of course its not as polished as a leopard, but it has its how strong selling points, or not as ... don't know how to compare it with Vista (I personally find Vista, humm... bad)
The funny thing is that, it is exactly how I thought this was going to go. And I had this clear notion more than 2 years ago, wen we were fighting to get 4.0 out.
At the time I thought that 4.0, I would not be able to use, (I wasn't well cause my distro did not made a version of it, and I was not brave enough to build it myself :) ), 4.1 would be usable and already better in some way than my beloved 3.5, (and it is, I use it all the time and cant get back to 3.5), and 4.2 would be on pair with the competition better in some ways, worst in others, And from my test so far its exactly so, its an amazing desktop very polished, pretty, coherent, modern, and extremely flexible. Clearly shows that its a fresh vibrant project with strong pillars that define the desktop of tomorrow, today. And better its doing that in its own its KDE Pillars its not windows or macos.
Now, 2 years ago, I thought what about 4.3 ??? I thought at the time, "well if all goes well 4.3 will be the start of the revolution were we finally say the time as come", the open source desktop is here and is here to prosper.
I must say that Im very proud of being a part of the enormous effort kde is, kudos to every one, 4.2 is amazing and belive it or not, its not done yet.

We are witnessing a revolution.
Kde 4.2 is already rocking, i have come across some who were unhappy with kde 4.0 and i told all those people that by January 2009, they will be forced to change their mind.
I personally would like to thank each and every developer who invested their valuable time and effort in making KDE, what it is today (Awesome-est DE).
I have no doubt that KDE _will_ become poster child child of Open-Source/Free Software community. Just like Firefox was everywhere in MSM few years back.
From a user's perspective, i already use the best DE.
Thanks Again :D.
Leopard is for poser people and vista is simply too bad.
Kudos.
Now we have only a few nice themes including Oxygen. We need more themes like Qtcurve what can be configured well.
Thats why we need ARGB support for KWin and Windows itself, so we can get transparent parts for windows :-D
not sure, theory says that 95% of the users never change their defoults. just look at the amount of green XP filds out there.
On the other end for a certain margin of users its important and they do a lot of free marketing for US.
Theming in qt is not as simple as say... gtk (in the most simple raster based themes) but the amout of stuf you can do is soo much larger that I think its worth the difrence....
Geting more themes depends on coders doing them...
IN the next relase of oxygen we hope to work alot on the animation bit.
maybe for 4.4 we will try to come up with a new optional more WOW theme. we will see...
Maybe it is time to use one of the photographs already included in 4.0 as the default-wallpaper.
If that is not the new wallpaper when we will be able to see it?
I'm afraid that Microsoft and Apple might make a terminator and send it back in time to assassinate you, BEWARE! :-(
I am confident that you can blow away OS X. It will not happen overnight but it will. That's thre power of teamwork!
Keep up the powerful work guy and show the world why KDE is the best DE ever!
MS is already working on the case. Take a look at Windows 7. They copied the KDE panel and mixed it with a little OS X effects but that's not enough because KDE is evolving constantly so by the time Win 7 is released that will be old style :) Hope they have a plan B.
KDE is much more than looks for me. It's the limitless configurability, the freedom to make my DE be what I want it to be, it's the power, the philosophy and the spirit behind it. Something that neither OSX nor Windows will ever have.

But amarok interface need more attention. Take a look this mockup of amarok. It is oxygenated.

Don't get me wrong, I love KDE, but you guys are really hypocrites.
You say that Windows 7 is copying KDE, but you should also recognize that KDE4 has been copying a lot of Vista on the style.
Shame on you.
Help, please. All recommend this program to effectively advertise on the Internet, this is the best program!
