Oxygen style is coming to town!

Today Casper Boemann, should be moving the oxygen style into the k4 branch of playground, its still much a work in progress but the last week development started to work really well with everybody sharing ideas of what was working and what was not working and how could we fix it.
Oxygen work this last days is going on like crazy, the sound theme is nearly completed and we should be committing it in the coming days, we have also started to work in mock 's for plasma widgets, and a couple of kde sites such as discoverkde .
In the icons front we will start to tackle the applications icons has the mime types are nearly all done.

So all goes as planed in what i think is the biggest open source artwork project in existence.

I have to agree with the previous comment. Can't wait to see it all put together :)

looks very nice! but the buttons are barely recognizable on my new Macbook display. It's a problem of the display, it's lacking contrast with very bright colors. But a few other display may have similar problems.

Pardon my question , but what is the difference between the 2 buttons left of the "close" (x) button on the top-right corner of the windows ?

What should I expect when clicking one or the other ?

doesn't remember too much the macosx style?
anyway it's really good, i like it :)

well most this is only a mock :)
the actual windec has smore info in those butons, and its progresive info it has hover state and pressed state.
The style wont be to much macosx it has a identity of its hown and a psisical world were he makes sence...

Remember one thing kde themes are color thmable so it can be what ever you would like it to be ;).

all this smooth and round looks indeed very pretty but we definately need more contrast.. it's hurting my eyes now :(

Looks good but..
The buttons are too small and they should be right in the corner. Right now they are too difficult to aim at. And the contrast thing...

Fantastic artwork!!. and yes, I want the wallpaper too!.

Once I read that Gnome was more Mac-like and KDE more Windows-like referring to the appearance). This is proves that wrong. KDE is gonna have a superior artwork just at the same level as Mac one, and I dont' mean a copy but original artwork. Of course there's a bit of resemblance but I like it.

great work, looks nice!

The intire thing is not that similar to mac apart from the no windeck look (great idea btw).
What i can tell you guys is that we are extremly exyted about all this stuf over at oxygen.
It will be in my opinion the best looking desktop in existence.

Yes beter than mac!!!!

Looks good, can't wait to start using it

Foste diggado!!!!

Parabéns pelo style está fantástico, e sim é mac, mas olhado a direcçao do leopard vai ser bastante diferente...

e acho que é bastante mais elegante que o mac actual, acho que é melhor que mac ;-)

will be gray the default style? i think it's nicer something more dark, like the runner (http://davigno.oxygen-icons.org/i/runner-1.jpg) also because in that case would you have something gray, something dark...what do you think?

Nice. Could we have an option so that we can slide how far are the buttons from one another? it would be a cool feature.

Looks a lot like Detour for e17 ...

It does resemble the OS X style a bit, but I prefer the "milk" coloring over the brushed metal. Looks great so far.

There's a Gnome theme that looks an awful lot like this called Smoothie. It has a Mac OSX look and feel.

Nice, light grey on light grey icons. Very visible.

This isn't 2000. That look is too generic and suffers from a design mentality that seems to continue to plague KDE and GNOME GUI skins, over simplicity. Make something different, make something with variation, color, easy to see. Stop trying to make things look so clean. It makes the user experience boring and harder.

I really hope that when maximised, you can still close windows by clicking on the top right of the screen, like in most previous kde themes, and in windows.

Its really an important human interface consideration that the top right corner of the screen be clickable, since its the 'biggest' button there is.

Or have they given up basic human interface principles for some more eye candy... AGAIN...

I hope it's not gonna look like OS X. It looks dull, it's too grey/white, There's not enough contrast in buttons... Windows Vista looks nicer.

Honestly, it seems like it took 5 minutes to make this. I'm a huge fan of simple, but this is too simple...seems like you aren't paying attention to the details. The buttons should be evenly space between the top of the window and the right side. The white border on the sides of the window look terrible as well. And what is the point of the line thru the buttons? Don't think it makes much sense.

Grey on light grey, my eyes hurt! Where is the contrast?

I hate to rain on the party. But some of us don't care in the least for visual aesthetics, especially not when it distracts from usability / screen real estate utilization. As for sound themes, people who use their computer for more than 15 minutes a day will find thats the first thing they disable. ( Anybody else out there cringe when they hear somebody still with the windows login 'microsoft sound' ). I for one won't be proud of something that looks too much like OSx or Vista. Everyone else toting the 'zomg that looks like osx KAWAIIII!' banner are being mac fanbois, KDE -isn't- OSX, and it shouldn't look like it ( Gnome tried to follow the mac way, and as a result, its rubbish ). Reason being? theres nothing worse than somebody seeing your linux desktop saying 'that looks just like mac,...why didn't you just get a mac'. KDE has always been my choice over everything else for its customizability and ability to be compact and highly functional. Don't loose a good thing. Create the road, not follow one. :)

hi i just want to know how do i make background like that
thank you

Kent has you can see from the above coments seemas most people care about this stuf, and they want somthing that they can find pretty.
The bewty of kde is that fact that it can acmodate all of us, i bet we will still have a rather plain widget stile one that you can chose from. And has you said you can remove the sound theme.

But i think that if we realy want to be a part of the future we must be able to produce somothing that is truly professional and wow looking, if we dont we will still be the next best thing that never was...

I want us to be the greatest thing we can be.

If i can give you some suggestion, you should try to look the mockup of Everaldo at http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Crystal+Project?content=60475

your work so nice, but the Everaldo have the new artistic taste and elegant and wooow..

I don't want to be a party pooper, but I think it is way too much osx-like. Osx is cold and hard while the current kde-look is more warm, colorfull and friendly.

I think this style need more contrast like this: http://code.google.com/p/detour/

Looks great! I imaging the windec could use just a touch more work (button placement, contrast). Also don't worry about whether it looks like OSX or Vista. Just focus on being passionate about creating something that is functional and looks great. If the result shares some similarities to OSX or Vista then who cares! Aim for something unique, but don't twist yourselves into knots trying to. As artists/stylists I'm sure you're all aware of the many disastrous examples of a design-by-commitee approach to design. Please don't ignore the feedback, but please don't trip over yourselves trying to please everyone.

Good luck and keep the candy coming!

Love your work so far. There’ll always be people that will make unhelpful comments; try not to let them get you down so you can still draw on the constructive criticism. Keep up the great work. (No, I don’t think it looks too much like OSX, and I don’t think it can hurt to soften interface elements that everyone knows are there.) :)

And contrast? I mean it looks great but accesibility is always of great concern.
